PANAAD 2016 : A Walk of Penance

A Panaad is somewhat a sacrifice that should accomplish by an individual in order to show sympathy to the Lord but some will make it as a payment for the bad deeds that they’ve made before.

Since, I always hope to have an experience such program during Holy Week. And now, I finally made it! Though I really didn’t perfect it that way but still the most important is the sincerity and the holiness that we’ve made.

My PANAAD for this Holy Week 2016 is A Walk of Penance in Camiguin Island of Mindanao in Philippines.

Camiguin Island was known to be the most visited place during Holy Week for the Prusisyon since a long time ago already.

Before the showcasing of our “Walk of Penance” as what I call it during the PANAAD 2016 for the Holy Week, I would like to share what I’ve known regarding Holy Week.

What is a Holy Week?

According to most, It is a week before Easter, starting on Palm Sunday. Palm Sunday is the 6th and last Sunday of Lenten before Easter.

Easter Sunday, which immediately follows Holy Week and begins with the Easter Vigil, is the great feast day and apogee of the Christian liturgical year: on this day the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is celebrated.

Holy Week in the Philippines, Mahal na Araw in Filipino and Semana Santa in Spanish is a significant religious observance for the Roman Catholic and most Protestant groups as what I’ve read from a site.

It begins on Palm Sunday and continues on through Maundy Thursday until Black Saturday. Many people observe Spanish-influenced Catholic rituals such as Prusisyon.

Now let me show you how we made our PANAAD 2016 : A Walk of Penance at Camigin Island in Mindanao Philippines.

It was really a sacrifice, really, specially for me ( Hahaha) to wake up at 2 am in the morning. I have to wake up at 2 am since I still have to ready not only the things that I should bring but also myself for the entire 2 days as what we’ve estimated. Because this PANAAD is not really that easy for me because I am a beginner for this and have no experience such walk like this. We will be  walking the entire Camiguin. Yes! The 5 Provinces of Camiguin will be visited. It was a total of 64 Kilometers to finish the Panaad and It’s sure that I need to be ready for that.

From Cagayan de Oro City we still have to travel atleast 2-3 Hours and will take a Ferry Boat/Roro from Balingoan Port to Binoni Port of Camiguin in 30 minutes. We arrived in Balingoan at 6 am then we have to take the long line together with the Devotee’s also.

Yey! At 12nn finally we’ve made it to the first line! Hahaha though we still have to wait again but still God is Good to guide us here still alive and kicking Hahaha.

So “yagit (trash in English)” yet it’s still worth the sacrifices

In Gods grace, we’re Off to Camiguin Island!

Terminal Fee : 15.00

Ferry Boat/Roro : 170.00

As we Step on in this Journey

And we arrived from all the hardships and this is just the beginning of everything. We still have more challenges to go through this journey. And I am welcoming myself for that. I know by God’s guidance I can make it!

Ready for A Walk of Penance!

Lord, be with me in everything that I might do for this Journey, Give me Strength and more Energy to finish what I might start.

The first tree I’ve seen so far! And there’s still a lot of it ( I love nature ) #NaturesBest

Seeing this, is reminding me of Lords presence! What a beautiful scenery.

The second tree #NaturesBest

And now, we already found a Chapel and this is our first Chapel of a lot of more to see. Each of us has a unique way of celebrating this Penance and mine is a way of praying when visiting such Church or a Chapel –  Any thing will do as long as it came from a heart and all of it is for God.

Mine is just the usual Prayer.

The Our Father : Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name: Thy kingdom come: Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread: and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation: but deliver us from evil. Amen.

The Hail Mary : Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen

Glory Be to the Father : Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

And those are some of my photo’s during the Panaad 2016.

To sum it up, the journey was quite difficult and so tiring yet if you accomplish it, It’s worth the sacrifices.

  1. Hi! I saw that this was last year. Was it Holy Thursday when you went to Camiguin and experienced the long lines? We’re planning to leave tonight and arrive by Balingoan early morning tomorrow. Will we experience the long lines also, which you stated that you waited for 6 hours? Thanks a lot!

    1. Hi Mr. Eric! Yes it was Holy Thursday when we went there, we departed at 2am from Cagayan de Oro City and was arrived at 6am. And then we waited for long hours til we arrived, we arrived at Camiguin around 11am. Because there are so many people during Holy Week for Camiguin is one of the most visited place during Holy Week. It’s better to go there earlier thann usual. GOD BLESS! 🙂
